AREA 1

Neurodevelopmental Psychiatry and Developmental Psychopathology

This research area investigates how biological, psychological, and environmental factors interact throughout development to influence the emergence of mental disorders during childhood and adolescence.

The group studies transdiagnostic developmental trajectories, seeking to understand shared mechanisms among different psychiatric conditions, including anxiety disorders, ADHD, ASD, emotional dysregulation, and behavioral alterations.

This area integrates clinical and translational approaches to investigate clinical heterogeneity, neurobiological profiles, and risk factors associated with neurodevelopment.

Topics investigated include:
• psychiatric trajectories throughout development;
• transdiagnostic psychopathology;
• emotional dysregulation;
• early adversity;
• environmental factors in neurodevelopment;
• clinical and neurobiological profiles in child psychiatry.

AREA 2

Biomarkers, Inflammation, and Neuroimmunology

This research area investigates inflammatory, neuroimmune, and biological mechanisms involved in childhood and adolescent mental disorders.

The group develops translational studies aimed at identifying biomarkers associated with psychiatric conditions and neurodevelopmental alterations, seeking to understand how inflammatory processes and environmental factors may influence early psychiatric trajectories.

Peripheral biomarkers, oxidative stress markers, immunological mechanisms, and their relationships with clinical, cognitive, and behavioral factors are investigated.

This area includes studies involving:
• autism spectrum disorder;
• ADHD;
• anxiety disorders;
• trauma and early adversity;
• neuroinflammation;
• serum biomarkers;
• transdiagnostic mechanisms in psychiatry.

LAPIA develops translational research in child and adolescent psychiatry, investigatingbiological, environmental, and developmental mechanisms involved in mental disordersthroughout neurodevelopment.The group integrates clinical research, translational neuroscience, and public mentalhealth, focusing on transdiagnostic trajectories, biomarkers, school mental health, andnew technologies applied to child and adolescent psychiatry.
